Radiosurgery Pre-Meeting Course Program: Thursday, February 15th

This course requires an additional registration. Space is limited.
This course offers a comprehensive overview of stereotactic radiation therapy for skull base tumors with emphasis on practical application, technique, indications and complications. The course will be divided into two half-day sessions focused on single-session Gamma Knife Radiosurgery (GK-SRS) and stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) using advanced radiotherapy imaging and techniques. This course is targeted at neurosurgeons, neurotologists, medical physicists, radiation oncologists, fellows and residents interested in skull base stereotactic radiosurgery, and is an opportunity to expand the practitioner’s range of treatment options.

At the conclusion of this session, attendees will be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge on indications for radiosurgery at the skull base.
  • List clinical and imaging expectations of outcomes.
  • Describe how radiosurgery, resection, and observation are integrated into clinical care.
  • Discuss the expected outcomes in individual patients and potential range of complications after skull base radiotherapy/radiosurgery.
  • Apply the principles of stereotactic radiotherapy imaging, target delineation, dose planning and motion management for day-to-day management of skull base tumors.

Pre-Meeting Dissection Course Program: Wednesday, February 14th – Thursday, February 15th

Wednesday, February 14

Day 1: Wednesday, February 14

The skull base dissection course is designed for residents, fellows and practicing surgeons within the surgical specialties comprising the NASBS. Participants will have access to high-quality fixed and injected cadaveric specimens for hands-on dissection utilizing state-of-the-art equipment and instrumentation. Proctoring will be provided by experts in skull base surgery who will demonstrate a wide variety of open and endoscopic skull base approaches with one-on-one table-side supervision and mentorship. All participants will receive training in the endoscopic carotid artery injury cadaveric simulation.

At the conclusion of this session, attendees will be able to:

  • Describe the anatomical basis for most commonly performed skull base procedures.
  • Perform the most frequently utilized open and endoscopic skull base approaches in a cadaveric model.
  • Achieve proficiency in visualization and hemostasis using the endoscopic carotid artery injury simulator.
