NASBS Career Development Award
Rationale:
To promote research, scholarly activity, and career advancement and successful transitioning of NASBS members to independent NIH funding. Applicants must demonstrate that they have applied for a K award, R01, R03, R21, U01 or similar NIH funding mechanism and did not meet funding score cutoff. The goal of this award mechanism is to provide funding to obtain additional preliminary data in order to be successful in the grant awardees grant award re-submission.
Amount:
Up to $20,000
Applicant Criteria:
- NASBS members
- Have submitted and unsuccessfully obtained a K award, R01, R03, R21, U01, or similar NIH funding mechanism
- Applicants have not previously successfully obtained a higher level NIH award as a Principal Investigator (ie prior R01 awardees are ineligible to apply for the NASBS Career Development award for R03, R21, or K award submission)
- Applicants must submit their unsuccessful grant submission, score, and reviewer feedback as part of the NASBS career development award application
Selection criteria:
Projects will be selected in accord with the current scoring criteria for Research Grants with the following additional criteria:
- Strength of the unsuccessful NIH grant submission
- Likelihood of successful grant re-submission with additional preliminary data from NASBS career development grant award
- NASBS career development award recipients must resubmit their NIH grant application within 1 year of completion of the grant
- Grant selection will promote considerations of diversity, equity, and inclusion
- If no meritorious grant applications are submitted under this mechanism, a grant may not be awarded under this mechanism each year
If an individual receives an award through this special category and does not adhere to the above criteria, NASBS has the right to investigate and take appropriate action. This may lead to the individual and/or their co-investigators forfeiting the grant award and future opportunities to apply to the research grant process for a period of 5 years.
