We are pleased to announce a new initiative for the North American Skull Base Society (NASBS) to provide a valuable resource for its members. Healthcare is progressively being driven by standardization of care initiatives in order to promote clinical care that is evidence-based and consistent in its delivery. To this extent, many institutions have been actively developing and implementing pathology specific care pathways. These help to promote multi-disciplinary management, standardization of care, utilization of best available scientific evidence, and integration of care algorithms and outcome tracking with the electronic medical record, all with the goal to improve quality and therefore value.
Many institutions are individually developing their own pathology specific care pathways for various skull base pathologies and/or procedures. The development of these care pathways is very time consuming, which presents a significant barrier to development and implementation. Part of the mission of the NASBS Value-Based Healthcare Committee (VBHC) is to disseminate information and provide tools for member clinicians to optimize value in the care of skull base patients. To this mission, we want to provide a member access only NASBS hosted repository of member institution care pathways. This will serve as a great resource for members to develop their own care pathways, evaluate their existing care pathways, and promote the spread of knowledge and best practices.
iCare Pathways will be accepted as PDFs and will be displayed on the website by name of the pathology or procedure (e.g. Pituitary Adenoma Care Pathway) with a subheading for the submitting member name and institution and date of submission (similar to PubMed citation). We do encourage submitting members to discuss with their respective institutions before submitting. If it preferred to submit as anonymous, that will be accepted as well. This initiative was approved by the NASBS executive committee. Please direct submissions and any questions to Paula Kupiec ([email protected]) or Varun Kshettry ([email protected]).
We are seeking submissions based on skull base pathology or skull base procedure from members to contribute to this valuable resource. Please see the submission form below to submit your care pathway(s). All submissions will be reviewed by the Value-Based Healthcare Committee and, if approved, will be hosted on the NASBS website under member login access only.
