Fellowship Program Description:

Goals of Fellowship Program
Evaluate the skull base patient in the inpatient and outpatient setting, utilizing up to date treatment algorithms and state of the art imaging modalities including those encompassing vascular anatomy, perfusion, 3-dimensional reconstruction. Treatment plans should include observational, interventional, and operative modalities when appropriate for pathology at hand in the setting of patient health status and expectations, which should align with community standards of care.

Perform operative interventions emphasizing skull base drilling approaches for safe working corridors and access to brain, cranial nerves, vasculature and tumor pathology. Utilize state of the art technology for safe and effective surgery, including embolization, microscope/exoscope, endoscope, ultrasound, angiography.

Work in an interdisciplinary team of neurosurgeons, neuro-oncologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, neuro-otologists, ophthalmologists, rhinologists and pathologists to create a comprehensive patient and disease based treatment plan. Utilize radiosurgery when appropriate, understanding limits at the skull base.

Become a physician-educator, using didactic sessions, cadaver work and teaching in the operating theatre in the education of neurosurgery residents.
Understand expected arachnoid planes and expected distortion and shift of brain tissue, cranial nerves and vasculature based on tumor pathology, cell source and tumor pathophysiology of growth, incorporating up to date genetic considerations.

Become a meticulous practitioner and advocate of microdissection, understanding the handling of tissue, working around vasculature, safe vectors of force and tumor manipulation mechanics.

Participate in research endeavors including clinical trials and cadaveric study in our state of the art dissection laboratory
