Annual Meeting - Program Information

ABSTRACTS
All abstract forms must be received by October 1, 2001 at the North American Skull Base Society office. The Program Committee strongly requests that abstracts be submitted by e-mail. See the abstract form for specific details and instructions. For any abstract to be considered for the Annual Meeting, you MUST include a fax number or e-mail address.

PRE-MEETING COURSES
The Pre-Meeting Courses will include a two day Workshop on Skull Base Approaches with hands-on cadaver dissection. There will also be a one day Practical Course, Surgical Approaches to the Skull Base, featuring 3-D video slide presentations of surgical procedures and cadaver dissections by the experts in the field.

Workshop Highlights:
Featuring lectures and hands-on instruction on the cranio-orbital-zygomatic approach, middle fossa approach, maxillotomy approach, trans-oral approach, petrosal approach, and transcondylar approach. The Course Director is Dr. Saleem I. Abdulrauf.

Workshop Objectives:
The two-day hands on workshop will allow practicing surgeons, fellows, and residents to learn a variety of surgical approaches to the skull base utilizing state-of-the-art instrumentation under the guidance of a distinguished panel of surgeons. Participants will become familiar with the anatomy of the orbit, middle fossa, cavernous sinus, petrous region and foramen magnum. Stations will be equipped with cadaver specimens, high-speed drill systems, operating microscopes and microinstruments.

Practical Course Highlights:
Featuring, 3D video and slide presentations of surgical approached in cadaver specimens by experts in the field. The Course Director is Dr. Joseph M. Zabramski.

Practical Course Objectives:
The practical course is designed to provide both practicing physicians and residents with an opportunity to explore the use of a variety of skull base approaches for the management of cranial tumors and cerebrovascular disease. This one-day course is taught by an outstanding faculty of recognized experts from the fields of neurotology, neurosurgery, and facial-reconstructive surgery. It is an interactive demonstration with the aid of 3-D slides, 3-D videos and cadaver dissections.

Facilities:
The courses will be held in the Loews Coronado Bay Resort just prior to the Annual Meeting.

Tuition/Registration:
To ensure the maximum benefit to each participant, enrollment in the hands-on Workshop has been limited to 40 individuals (Note: At the past annual meetings, enrollment was filled early). Enrollment in the Practical Course will be limited to 100 registrants. Registration will be confirmed in the order in which payment is received. Participants requiring special accommodations for their participation in the course should include those requests along with their registration.

The fee for the two day hands-on Workshop is $1,200. The fee for the Practical Course is $400. If you register for both Pre-Meeting Courses (the hands-on Workshop and the Practical Course), you will receive a $100 discount. For residents/fellows, the fee for the Workshop is $1,000 and $300 for the Practical Course. Residents registering for both courses will also receive a $100 discount. These fees are detailed on the registration form in this brochure.

In the event of cancellation prior to December 15, 2001, a 10% administration fee will be assessed. Because of the need to limit enrollment, a 50% cancellation fee will be charged after December 15, 2001. After February 1, 2002, no refunds are possible.

CME ACCREDITATION
The North American Skull Base Society is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians. The NASBS designates Category 1 credit towards the AMA Physician's Recognition Award for the following educational activities: Pre-Meeting Workshop for up to 16 hours; Pre-Meeting Practical Course for up to 8 hours; and the Annual Meeting for up to 32 hours. Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.
